Day 17: Water

Water reminds me of baths. Which reminds me that I am not allowed to take a bath for two weeks because I have a small skin surgery last week (think pre-cancerous mole, not tummy tuck, unfortunately).

Then this week I have another slightly more complicated surgery (think no more babies) which means my NO BATH time is going to start all over on Wednesday.

I am still allowed to shower, so don't go starting rumors that I stink.

(Except I may actually still stink thanks to the baby spit up that is permanently on my left shoulder these days. I like to think of (sp)it as an accessory that highlights my motherly charm. It completes the outfit.)

But back to baths.

I love baths.

I grew up only taking baths. Our house didn't have a functioning shower, so baths were the only option.
Not only that, they were the solution to all problems.

You're sick? Take a bath.
You're cold? Take a bath.
You had a stressful day? Go unwind in a nice hot bath.
You got a promotion!?! Congrats! You deserve a bubble bath!

I thought this was completely normal behavior until I met Jeff. He informed me that the rest of the world takes showers on a daily basis. Especially at hotels.

He's even trying to brainwash the kids by banning baths FOREVER! Each time I let them take one, he claims they splash too much when he finds three drops of water on the floor.

This topic came up at dinner the other night, only because I will whine to anyone that will listen about not being able to soak in a nice hot tub. Anyway, I found out that my mom, dad, and brother also prefer baths and my sister in law Melissa shares Jeff's opinions. It turns out that bathing habits are hard to break.

I'll tell you why.

I LOATH taking showers with a greater passion than I LOVE taking baths.
We discussed the pros/cons of baths/showers over dinner the other night as we defended our logic for why we prefer to "bathe in our own filth" to the in-laws.

Ugh! Those rich kids that grew up with their fancy-shmancy showers in their house!

Pros of Showers: Nothing really, though I guess one could argue speed...I'm being generous since I have been known to take a bath in under a minute forty five. (Ask my mom about it one day. I'm still proud.)

Cons of Showers: Standing up is never relaxing. Plus, as Matt put it, if you front side is getting hot water, your backside is freezing. And let's not even get into the fact that the shower stream is not symetrical because of the calcium deposits. BATHS ARE ALWAYS SYMETRICAL!

Anyway, point is, I love bathing "in my filth" and I am counting down the days until I can do it again.

So, what about you? Anyone else out there that takes more baths than showers?

***Bonus points if you knew that the above picture was Hayden, and not Blake. Those two are going to be identical one day.

I remember you guys with your baths! I am a total shower person. Even more so now that it seems that there's something wrong with our hot water heater and it's not very relaxing to sit in 3 inches of tepid water shivering!
