My Fault!

According to Hayden, everything lately is ALL! MY! FAULT!

Although I try my hardest not to let Hayden know that I find this absolutely hysterical, it amazes me to hear the degrees of separation between the actual incident and how it always manages to come back to me.

Of course there is the obvious one. The trampoline.

Because I wanted the trampoline. Had I not wanted the trampoline, Dad would not have bought me the trampoline. Had he not bought me the trampoline, Hayden wouldn’t have been tempted to take a toy on the trampoline and leave it outside.

You see, it makes perfect sense. His toy is ruined and it is ALL! MY! FAULT!

But last weekend, he had us both in stitches. Jeff and I were enjoying a lazy Saturday morning, still laying in bed. Hayden ran into the room in tears. I don’t know exactly what happened. I think Hayden hurt his hand hitting Davis or something.

Between the sobs, we could hear him defending Davis. “It’s not Davis’ Fault. It’s your fault!” he snapped as he glared at me.

Understandably, I was confused since they weren’t on the trampoline or even the driveway I insisted we have (to make his life miserable when riding a bike), so I asked the obvious question.

“My fault? How is this my fault?”

“Because you wanted TWO BABIES. AND I TOLD YOU WE SHOULD ONLY HAVE ONE BABY!”

I don’t exactly remember that conversation with Hayden when he was 14 months old. But I’m sure he wouldn’t make something like that up.

I don't get it. Are you saying his logic doesn't make sense? Maybe it is the examples you used...because I totally agree with Hayden on those.
