Thirty Four: First Day of School

The first day of school was "fine."
The new teachers were "good."
And that is about the extent our post-school
conversation until bedtime rolled around.

Hayden didn't give me too much lip about wearing a shirt with a collar because I had informed him the night before that first graders dress up on the first day. First graders are too cool to smile in cheesy first day of school pictures though. Clearly.

I didn't enforce the collared shirt rule with Davis because I found this retro shirt that said "I don't have a mute button" and decided a good warning to his teacher outweighed the need to dress up.

Bedtime update on First Grade: Today's specials was Art. He played with Jayden at recess. He earned a smelly (smelly chap stick rubbed on his hand). Ryan no longer goes to that school. And Hayden is the leader of his table.

Bedtime update on Pre-K - If you are really bad and the teacher "counts to a gillion and a gillion", you will have to go to the Principal's office. But if you are really good, "like gooder than good", "like beyond good", then you are the kid that earns the check mark for the day.

Davis was not the student to earn the check mark today.
There's always tomorrow.

Is that really a treat to get smelly chapstick rubbed on your hand or am I missing something.

I meant to put a question mark at the end of that, but do not know how to edit out my period.

I don't know what you mean because was that a question or a statement?

But yes. Smellies are a really good thing. It must me a Texas thing.

Lucky Lemm Lions are a thing of the past!

This may be the best picture yet.

Mr. Hayden is Mr. Professional, all serious and ready to tame the world.

Mr. Davis: “Look Out World, Here I Come!”

How cute are your two boys. Big day. Their personalities seem to be so different. Hayden is so shy and Davis looks like he's ready for trouble!

Great picture! Hayden and Davis are soooo cute -- each ready to take on the day in their own way.

Not sure about "smellies" though. What will they come up with next?

I love the picture of the boys. I wish I could see Hayden's hair a little better, but it sure makes him look grown up. Dad says first graders have to be all serious now. I think I like stickers better than smelly chapstick. We need an update on if Davis' shirt was fair warning to his teachers.

Love you,
Mimi and GrandDad
